During the warm summer months, it's essential to nourish ourselves with foods that help balance the fiery Pitta dosha, which tends to be more dominant during this time of year. These Bliss Balls infused with rose, hibiscus and almond offer a cooling, soothing treat to calm both body and mind. The delicate floral essence of rosewater and petals, combined with the tart and crisp notes of hibiscus and the grounding quality of almonds, creates a sweet, calming snack perfect for summer!
Udvartana is an invigorating herbal powder massage from Ayurvedic tradition. Unlike conventional oil massages, Udvartana is dry and focuses on polishing the skin and stimulating the lymphatic system. The herbal powders, made from ingredients like chickpea flour, fenugreek, turmeric, and other potent herbs, are chosen based on their ability to balance the bodyโs doshas (biological energies). One of my friends, who experienced the massage, affectionately called the powder 'fairy dust,' which I think perfectly captures its enchanting quality. The term "Udvartana" comes from Sanskrit where "Ud" means "upwards" and "Vartana" means "to move." This unique massage uses upward strokes to invigorate the body and promote detoxification (that's why it's also great during a spring detox). This helps in relieving stagnation, enhancing an overall sense of lightness in the body and clarity in the mind!ย
As the warmth of summer gives way to the crisp air of autumn, Vata dosha takes the center stage, urging us to adjust our self-care practices to align with nature's rhythm.ย
It's the end of March and Spring has officially started according to our seasonal calendar. However nature does not switch seasons from one day to another. It's a process of transitioning. According to Ayurveda this period is called Ritusandhi. Ritu means seasonal and sandhi means joint. This transition period takes about 6 weeks and gives us the time to shift smoothly into the next season. In the northern hemisphere during Spring the sun gains energy and is slowly warming up this side of the earth. This means the moon with its lunar qualities is residing and days are getting longer. The warm solar energy causes the ice in the mountains to melt which starts rivers to flow freely again. We human beings are a reflection of the macro cosmos so this too happens within our bodies.ย In winter we can generally digest more and with the last harvest (and let's not forget end of the year festivities full of sweet, heavy and oily foods) we eat ourselves a protective winter coat that naturally insulates us from the cold outside. In Spring accumulated Kapha dosha (water & earth element) starts to liquify in the body so that it ideally easily can get eliminated out of our body.ย This melting action can give rise to all sorts of ailments such as respiratory congestion, runny nose, blocked sinuses, phlegm in the lungs and throat, weight gain, hay fever and asthma. The common cold / flu is back again and we can experience a general feeling of heaviness that can also cause us to feel sluggish and lethargic.
This soup is like a ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฏ๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฑ๐ข๐ซ. The beautiful color, fragrance and sweet taste works magic on all senses!โฃโฃA highly recommendable soup when you feel a little ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฐ๐ก๐๐ฅ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐จ๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ but also great during the ๐๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฌ ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฅ๐. In both cases your digestive fire goes down which makes choosing warm, juicy and easy to digest foods like this soup a great choice!โฃโฃThe main ingredients are root vegetables which have a very ๐ ๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐จ๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ effect on the body (increasing water and earth element) & mind (relaxing the parasympathetic nervous system). Beets specifically have a ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ง๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐ข๐ effect on the blood. Carrots are also mildly tonic, anti-oxidant & rich in nutrients๐๐ผ
At this time of year, ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐ข๐ซ๐ ๐ฅ(called Agni in Ayurveda) is naturally higher. Heat is kept easier inside the body whereas in the warmer months we lose a lot of this heat through perspiration.โฃโฃAs a result we now often ๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ซ and therefore also eat more heavy foods (hello stews, mashed potatoes, lasagna etc). With these foods our body creates our ๐ง๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐ฅ ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ฅ๐๐ฒ๐๐ซ so that we stay warm and comfortable during the cold months.โฃโฃOnly with all the events around the holidays we often As a result, we can experience all kinds of discomforts such as a ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐๐ญ๐๐ ๐จ๐ซ ๐ฉ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ฆ๐๐๐ก and the XL version of the well-known '๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐ข๐ง๐ง๐๐ซ ๐๐ข๐ฉ'.โฃโฃYou can see your digestive fire as a ๐๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ข๐ซ๐: if you throw too many or continuous twigs (food) or water (drinks) on the fire, you extinguish the fire. In addition, space is needed for the fire to perform its burning process properly.
Especially for this time of the year where we often ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ญ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐ง๐๐๐ค ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฒ ๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐ we can experience all kinds of discomforts such as bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain, nausea, spasms in the gut, a feeling of heaviness and being very low on energy (the famous 'after dinner dip').โฃโฃWhen brewed together, the famous digestive spices Cumin, Coriander, and Fennel blend into a This tea enkindles the digestive fire, encourages healthy absorption of nutrients and supports the bodyโs ability to break down natural toxins. โฃ
The dominance of the cold, rainy and windy weather of Autumn is for many synonymous with the onset of coughs, colds, sniffles and snot. This is the perfect time to boost your immune system with the help of this little recipe.โฃโฃThe mixture helps protect our bodies defense mechanism and fight off any pathogens. Many of these pungent/astringent herbs contain antimicrobial and antiviral properties and help scrape/burn away the mucus and congestion that has build up within our system. The sweet taste of the honey takes away the initial sharpness of the raw garlic (when soaked for about 2 wks) and acts as a perfect vessel to bring all ingredients deeper into our tissues. ๐ง๐ฟ๐ช
The increase of the ๐๐ข๐ซ and ๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ element in Autumn can create dryness and roughness in our body-mind system. โฃโฃAyurveda's beloved ๐ ๐จ๐ฅ๐๐๐ง ๐ง๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ, also known as ghee (clarified butter), comes to rescue. โฃโฃIt's my favorite cooking fat to use (and make) because of its many benefits and delicious nutty flavor ๐ฉโ๐ณ๐Itโs nowadays available in most supermarkets but also easy and fun to make yourself.
