What is Udvartana?

Udvartana is an invigorating herbal powder massage from Ayurvedic tradition. Unlike conventional oil massages, Udvartana is dry and focuses on polishing the skin and stimulating the lymphatic system. The herbal powders, made from ingredients like chickpea flour, fenugreek, turmeric, and other potent herbs, are chosen based on their ability to balance the body’s doshas (biological energies). One of my friends, who experienced the massage, affectionately called the powder 'fairy dust,' which I think perfectly captures its enchanting quality. The term "Udvartana" comes from Sanskrit where "Ud" means "upwards" and "Vartana" means "to move." This unique massage uses upward strokes to invigorate the body and promote detoxification (that's why it's also great during a spring detox). This helps in relieving stagnation, enhancing an overall sense of lightness in the body and clarity in the mind!
